I clearly don’t know what I’m doing. Yes, that’s a general statement. In this case, I’m talking about blogging. I re-blogged the Newsweek article with my letter. Then, some of you “liked” it and I realized that I’m just adding to the “likes” for the article. So, let me try this again. Here is the Newsweek story. Now here’s me. New post. Re-blog if you don’t “like” Charlie. Like if you “don’t like” him. This post shows that we “don’t like” Charlie. Does this make sense? Am I losing my mind? Maybe. It’s just that I’m upset. Really. Can you tell?
I wrote a letter to Newsweek/The Daily Beast’s Tumblr this morning. I told them it was an updated version of a June 13th post of mine. Anyway, it doesn’t look like they are publishing it. So, not to be redundant (even though I am) but I’m posting it here. At least I’ll know I said what was on my mind. And, looking at this picture, I’m just going to say it. Kids (my kids), cover your eyes. “No, Charlie Sheen. Fuck you.”
Newsweek Jumps On The Charlie Sheen Comeback Train — Big Time
My problem with Charlie Sheen has nothing to do with his struggles
with addiction. Nothing.
My problem with Charlie Sheen is his well-documented history of
violence against women. And, my problem with Newsweek/The Daily Beast
is this week’s valentine to him that ignores it.
My problem isn’t just with you guys. It’s also with FX (home of his
shitty-looking new sitcom), Rolling Stone (he was on the cover), New
York Times (a ginormous profile of him ran last weekend), MTV (he
appeared at its slick, shiny Movie Awards) and all of the other
outlets that hopped on the Sheen comeback train. Or want to hop on if
he’ll grace them with an interview or a funny line about tiger blood.
Neither Michael Ware nor Tina Brown mentioned anything about Sheen’s
violence against women. Instead, Tina Brown introduced her
publication’s profile of the television star who has pleaded no
contest twice to charges of domestic violence by welcoming us to the
“Sheeniverse.” (Sounds fun!) Her letter continued: “For all his
obnoxious wildness, Sheen, Ware tells us, is a man of ‘incandescent
warmth’ and ‘boundless generosity.’” (Awww. He sounds a lot like Mr.
Rogers. I loved Mr. Rogers!)
Here’s a little snippet into the “Sheeniverse” from the March 5, 2011
edition of the Los Angeles Times: “Charlie Sheen’s estranged wife said
this week that the TV star vowed to decapitate her and send her
severed head to her mother.” I guess there wasn’t room in Ware’s more
than 2,000-word story for it.
The New York Times headline for its own profile of Sheen was
“Repentant? No Way, Man.”
Well, I don’t think he is the only one who should be sorry.
